A major June tour of Western Europe ensues under the direction of chief conductor Philippe Jordan.
Tour start with Philippe Jordan in Paris
As music director of the Opéra National de Paris, the Swiss-born Jordan will feel right at home as our tour begins in Paris. Additional ports of call include Cologne, Basel, Zurich, Geneva, and Lugano. Among the works on the programme are Strauss’ tone poem Don Quixote with French cellist Gautier Capuçon and Schumann’s Violin Concerto, a late work that demands a lot of the interpreter and provides the orchestra with an additional opportunity to collaborate with Julia Fischer this season.
The concerts in Switzerland are sponsored by PORR.
Kissinger Sommer and Richard Strauss Festival
The Wiener Symphoniker’s season of guest performances concludes with an appearance at Kissinger Sommer in the Bavarian district of Lower Franconia and at Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
John Coriglianos und Charles Ives
Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Under the direction of Gustavo Gimeno, the orchestra will perform at Kissinger Summer, among others, John Corigliano’s percussion concerto, Conjurer, with Martin Grubinger as soloist.
